Path
Dear All,
This week is about wrapping up what we hope to be just the beginning of many more interactions. On Saturday February 21, 2009 at 9PM GMT there will be an online session where we invite you to create a short presentation / a resource/ a video/ etc reflecting your personal views about this last 6 weeks of interaction. We are really interested in knowing about what this journey has meant to you and where you want to go from here. Hopefully, we will keep threading this learning path in company, and many collaborative adventures will emerge from this experience. Let's regard this week not as the end of something, but rather the starting of a new phase we are about to enter. But before we do that, it would be useful to think in retrospective about this workshop: how far we have come and what we have conquered as part of our learning goals, etc.

As usual, we welcome any type of artifacts reflecting YOUR personal learning while taking part in this AWESOME group! Remember, learning is an open road which gets more interesting the more intersections we find. After all, the intellectual growth of any learner is also related to the choices he/she gets to make according with the situations he/she comes across his/her journey!

Hello Everyone,

Two more days to go to the final challenge of the workshop on the safety of online profiles. Join the live online debate: How safe are the online profiles we create? Join one of the two featured groups if you haven't already, decide on the speakers, and convince us of your position.

Thank you.

Challenge #3 Share with us your current favorite learning web tool/application/ site, etc and let us know why? Choose only one tool! We would like to start a database with people’s favorite personal learning spaces/ tools/apps (and reasons why). The collective resources will help towards building an online presence that aligns with the learning activities and practice. Here are some tips on how to start challenge #3 with a short reflection: http://profdigitalid.pbwiki.com/profile At the end of the week, we will host a live online event so we can share and reflect on our explorations! Have Fun! January 25, 2009 Dear all, This message is just to give you a couple of tips regarding the ning activity. We have noticed that it is becoming particular hard to keep up with the flow of activity, especially since we are all busy and checking and contributing to the Ning at different times of the day. One of the things we are finding particular useful is the use of RSS feeds to keep up with everyone’s participation. We just thought to share this with you in case you would like to give it a try. Here's a short explanation on RSS feed Here's the RSS feed URL for the Digifolios' latest activity (a link to this can also be found at the bottom of the ‘latest activity’ box, on the left hand side of ning’s main page). Evo2009pdi Team January 24, 2009 Tonight's synchronous talk was just a blast. A lot of discussions and personal experiences about online identity. It was a fabulous get together and we just hope there will be more like this next week! For those who haven't been able to make it, please have a look at the recording. Thanks for connecting! Live Online Event We are looking forward to seeing all the members of digifolios at the live online event tonight Saturday January 24 at 8PM GMT We are going to reflect on the last two weeks and the weeks to come. Correction: Please note the change in the time of today's live online session. It is at 8PM GMT at WiZiQ. Please check your timezone here. The storytelling session was incredible. Thank you for joining and making it so special. Here's the recording of the session via TipCam and BlipTV for those who were unable to attend: January 23, 2009 Live Online Meetings for Members of Digifolios Join our two live online meetings tonight at WiZiQ at 9PM GMT and tomorrow at 8PM GMTat WiZiQ. Task for Week 2 We hope you have been having a great time finding out a bit more about yourselves as well as about others. The activities are very important as they help bond and connect people in a special way, and teach us more about our personal traits, which will also be included in our professional portfolios. As far as we can tell, you all have been exploring different learning spaces together – from google docs to flickr. You certainly radiate creativity! Now it's time for our weekly task. This time we want to know how colorful your personal learning is,because our approach to learning is strongly determined by our personal traits as well as by the environments that surround us. Hence, we would like to ask you to think about the different agents that influence your learning the most and visually represent your personal learning, i.e, what are the learning spaces/ communities, etc that mostly contribute to your professional development and learning? Please add a reflection to the work you have done so far. Once again, there are no rules on how you want to represent and reflect on your learning self. This is entirely up to you and creativity is always welcome (as if you did not know already). Although the idea of PLE is commonly associated with online interactions, the fact is that our PLE is most likely to have a face-to-face component, too. Both contribute to our professional ID. Here you can find an example of what we mean. Cris' visualization of her PLE: http://tinyurl.com/8nul24 - we know, we know...! she was not feeling particularly creative when she did that! LOL A fairly good, compact reading about Personal Learning Environments can be found here: http://edutechwiki.unige.ch/en/Personal_learning_environment For more resources access the wiki http://profdigitalid.pbwiki.com/Readings and the Bookmaking Group: http://groups.diigo.com/groups/evo2009pdi We look forward to the fun! The Digifolios Team January 22, 2009 Hope you are enjoying Challenge #2 and the task for week 2. We will discuss weeks 1-2 and other topics related to digital IDs, digifolios and personal learning spaces in a live online workshop on Saturday January 24, 2009 at 8 GMT (majority rule). Everyone is invited, so come!!

Live Online Event for Members of Digifolios by Members of Digifolios and Personal Learning Spaces

Recording of Helen Keegan's Live Presentation at WiZiQ

Helen Keagan will present at a live online session on Digifolios and Personal Learning Spaces at WiZiQ at 9PM GMT or 4PM EST or check your time zone to be sure. January 19, 2009 Time Zones and Doodle The zones for all the live online events are in GMT. There is a menu on the Doodle with the list of time zones. Just scroll down for your time zone when you log into the doodle and the times change accordingly. Let me know if it doesn't work for you. I see we are off to a good start with Challenge #2 and Color. We will be starting live online sessions starting week 2. The sessions will be conducted over the weekends. Please add your time preferences to Doodle so we can set up the live online events. January 18, 2009 Congratulations to the two winners of Challenge #1 João Carlos Sousa and Sharon Betts Challenge #2 Challenge #2 will engage members of Digifolios in a group sharing project on color. Members will be forming new groups as they learn about the role color plays in identifying personalities and in forming relationships. The winning group will be announced at the end of week 6. Instructions 1. Go to True Color Career and take the quiz. 2. Once you learn about your true colors, locate others with the same dominant colors. 3. Form groups for each of the 2 dominant colors. 4. Create a group digital ID around the theme of your personalities, careers, and relationships. 5. Create a movie of your group as you work on designing your digital ID. Remember, the process is just as important as the final product. 6. Present your final work in your color group by week 5. 5. Convert your work into a youtube video so that your group can present it on WiZiQ in week 6. Most of us are constantly learning about our environments and our relationships to them. Our environments include people and situations that we am involved in at work, at home, and places we visit. We learn about our various roles wherever we go. The experiences we have in these environments determine our IDs. Here is a color relationship method that has helped many learn about themselves and their relationships with others. The True Color method consists of 4 personality types and how they blend and differ. True Colors helps predict how we interact with others and why certain relationship clash. Aesthetic Science: Understanding Preferences for Color January 17, 2009 Well Done!! You have done an incredible job on storytelling. The task is ongoing so there is no deadline. Enjoy the process. You may continue to edit and add to your storytelling artifact. We hope everyone is enjoying the weekend and getting ready for Challenge #2 and the agenda for week 2. January 15, 2009 How's it Going? Have you started your storytelling assignment? Are there any stumbling blocks along the way? If so, can you pin point what they are? Let's share the process so we can better understand how we perform as learners, learners in general, and our specific students if we teach. Finally, what will it take for me to complete this assignment? Resources: 1. Five tips for completing assignments 2. Getting your assignment in on time 3. Reflective Practice 4. Reflective Practice 5. Connecting Critical Reflection and Group Development in Online Adult Education Classrooms Join the discussion on How's it Going? January 14, 2009 Digifolios and Personal Learning Spaces workshop is about reflective dialogue where we learn about yourselves and others through collaborative and individual activities. The task for week one is Storytelling. Here are your instructions: Tell us about about your first approach towards learning technologies or that first experience that comes to mind. In other words, tell us your story on how it all started. It doesn't matter whether you are beginners or experienced users of web 2.0 tools, once we start working online, we automatically start developing an online identity. Here are some questions you may use to guide you on your story: 1. How did it all start? 2. What were you thinking? 3. What did you want to achieve? 4. Did you succeed? 5. Where did it take you? 6. How has your perspective changed throughout the years, months, or days? You might be asking yourself: How am I going to present my story? Well, it is your story, so it is up to you. Creativity is the only 'tool' we recommend at this stage. We are sure you will do a fine job, and we look forward to seeing your story. Please share your story with the rest of the members once you are ready. Good luck and have fun! The EVO2009pdi Team January 13, 2009 Please share the wonderful tools and resources with the rest of the members at Recommended Resources. Please join the live online chat here or by going into the right side bar or clicking on the top navigation bar for CHAT. Congratulations on an excellent job with Challenge #1. The contest is now officially closed. The results are coming in and the winners will be announced ASAP. (You may email me the results). Thank you to those who took the initiative and created a group for each of the siblings and to those who joined. Now it's time for all the members of Digifolios and Personal Learning Spaces to join one of the following groups: Eldest Children, Middle Child, Youngest Sibling, and Single Child. January 12, 2009 Welcome on Board this learning Adventure! This is a workshop about YOU and we truly hope you will enjoy the journey. Take some time to check what we have in store for you here. Visit the Discussions often and share your ideas, experiences and questions with us. Hopefully together we will be able to transform this space into an environment and HAVE FUN:-) Challenge #1: Siblings Birth Order Contest on January 12, 2009 The Digifolios and Personal Learning Environments (PLE) workshop has started. The sessions aim to provide awareness of the way the web can empower the individual not only to learn, but also to present what, how and with whom he/she learns. The sessions are moderated by Ann Fox, Cristina Costa, Doug Symington, and your host for challenge #1, Nellie Deutsch. One of the biggest joys and perhaps challenges of e-learning is learning about, with, and from others. Challenge #1 will engage the members of Digifolios in a contest that will reveal the impact of collaborating with over 100 members. Are you the first born, middle child, last born/the baby, or an only child? The goal of the challenge #1 is find out the birth order of all the members of Digifolios including the moderators. Contact the members of digifolios and find out who shares the same siblings birth order in the family as you. Members will communicate with one another to find out their places in the family in any way they wish. The road is open and as wide as you desire. Please feel free to innovate in any way you wish and take us on a tour - your tour! Ground Rules of the Contest Members will share their findings in any format on their individual blogs on the ning. You can locate the blogs tab on the top navigation bar . Enter it and start "Add a Blog Post". Make sure you write only me when you add the results of your findings. You can edit the blog post up to the closing time. (Please click on the hour to check your time zone for the starting and closing times of the contest) Starting time 11.00 AM PST and closing time 11.00 PM PST Please feel free to ask questions. Every question is important. Good luck. Ladies and gentlemen, let the contest begin. What does order of birth have to do with anything? First Live Online Event with Guest Speaker Presenter: Helen will present some work she has developed with final year students related to emerging technologies and Digital Identity Time: 4PM EST Location: Live WiZiQ Virtual Classroom

Welcome to Digifolios and Personal Learning Spaces

Building a professional ID in the 21st century

We live in an era of individual “personalization and customization”. The read and write web has helped develop a new concept - “do it yourself and your own way” . The phenomenon has had implications in our society at different levels - from the way people learn to the new, emerging jobs and employment needs. The workshop aims to help members become aware of the way the web can empower the individual not only to learn, but also to present what, how and with whom he/she learns.

The workshop is aimed at teachers and trainers who already have some initial experience with web 2.0 environments and online communities and who would like to explore the experience in depth and in a collaborative way.

The Electronic Village Online is a project of TESOL's CALL Interest Section.

I have to finish...

Or is this the start...of a new phase. I hope so...

But like i was saying, I will end this first chapter of our journey together, with a poem by one of my favorite poets... Fernando Pessoa.
I hope you enjoy it.

I don't know how many souls I have...

I’ve changed at every moment.
I always feel like a stranger.
I’ve never seen or found myself.
From being so much, I have only soul.
A man who has soul has no calm.
A man who sees is just what he sees.
A man who feels is not who he is.

Please click here for my feedback of the wonderful 6-week course. Words can't really express how much I have learned from everyone on the course. It has been a truly awesome journey and one which is only just beginning in terms of what can happen in the future.

I have enjoyed my time on Ning so much. What will I do with my free time now?? Well, firstly I will be reflecting on everything I have learned and then hopefully, applying what… Continue
